STRATFORD, ON -
As Stratford residents get ready to host a celebration of one of to Canada’s most beloved pastimes, a team of CBC-approved non-profit organizations are preparing to nourish the droves of hungry hockey fans with delicious, local fare.
On Saturday, January 30th beginning at 12 noon, Slow Food Perth County (SFPC) in partnership with Community Living Stratford & Area (CLSA) will be serving quintessential Perth County flavours that highlight our agricultural roots and culinary talent alike.
“On a day like this, people want simple, hearty fare,” says Slow Food Perth County member Tania Phillips, “The menu we’ve created will fit the bill perfectly.”
SFPC and CLSA volunteers will be set up in the Kiwanis Centre parking lot beside the William Allman Arena offering a Perth County menu including pulled pork on a bun, slow-baked pork and beans, homemade corn bread and hot apple cider. Local chefs have been invited to create a sauce, mustard or chutney, which will be served on the side to complement the delicious pork.
Proceeds will go to Community Living Stratford and Area and Slow Food Perth County. CLSA is a not for profit organization that helps intellectually disabled live in the community, and Slow Food Perth County coordinates and participates in events and initiatives that make good, clean, fair food - and education about food provenance and preparation - accessible to everyone.
Slow Food Perth County has decided to contribute its portion of proceeds to the Canadian Red Cross Haiti Earthquake Relief effort.
